caramel apples

Nothing says fall to me like, crackling leaves, long sleeve shirts, and crisp cool air. Ya well we just dont seem to have any of those here in southern california so we are making it feel like fall other ways.

Melissa & I had been craving caramel apples after seeing them at Disneyland weeks ago, so we decided we had to have them. The Luker's had us all over to make this yummy treat. Thanks guys!

Happy Halloween Weekend

Russell & I are the Cub Scout leaders for the Wolves! They are lots of fun and only occasionally a handful. These are a few pics of our Halloween Pack Meeting.

The kids came up with some pretty great costumes.

Photobucket
Stinger and all. Russell's headband didn't really turn out how I wanted it to, so I changed it later for the trunk or treat...

Photobucket
I wish I had pictures of all our friends in their costumes, everyone was decked out!
Some of my favorites not pictured:
-Cinderella, Jack & Gus Gus
-Tooth Fairy, a Tooth and a Dentist
-Ketchup, Mustard & two hamburgers

and you can't forget these two...

We hope everyone is having a great Halloween Weekend!

Halloween Week

Photobucket

The 20's Couple. Halloween 2009.

Are your costumes ready? I'm making ours today...hope they're ready by 7 for our cub scout party!

We always debate different costume ideas. We like to try and coordinate. This year we're going for the "Please don't take us seriously, this is supposed to be funny" category.

What are you dressing up as?

EAT

Introducing EAT.
We had some of our 1st year dental student friends over a few weeks ago for what I like to call EAT. Ok so I just made it up and sent out these invites.

Photobucket

Photobucket
{sorry Jamie & Brady this is your long last invite}

Photobucket
And it ended up looking a little something like this!

Photobucket
Dishing up and digging in

Photobucket
We then played some Minute to Win it games. SO FUN! Check them out here.

We split into 2 teams. This is David. He went up against Tyler, but I didn't snap any good ones of Tyler {probably because I was laughing too hard at David}.

I love everyone's expression in this pic! I went against Brady and we both beat the minute time!

Other highlights worthy of noting: Melissa shakin it in Junk in the Trunk! You were so great Melissa!

Retirement

After 33 1/2 years with the state of Washington's Department of Ecology, my Dad is officially retired! My brother and I flew home last week to take part in the festivities. It's actually fall in Washington, how great is that?

Photobucket
I spent the first night @ my cousins house and woke up to these little ones climbing in bed with me the next morning. They never cease to entertain! {We even let the girls play hookie for the day, so fun}

Photobucket
Both of my dad's parties were WSU Cougar themed {I'm the black sheep who didn't attend WSU, but at least I was still a Cougar}.

Photobucket
My mom had this picture done of my dad-all the things he loves to do: skiing, soccer, golf, and bicycling. Everyone from the Department left little notes for him.

Photobucket
My dad's work party was way better than I thought it would be {not that I expected it to be bad}. It was neat to hear people talk about the impact my dad has had on their lives. As a kid I knew my dad went to work and that was about it. My favorite speaker was a boy, well he's a man now, that met my dad @ the age of 17 at a wildlife restoration camp {or something like that}. After meeting my dad he knew he wanted to some day work @ Ecology too. After college he struggled to find a job and decided to call my dad. My dad hired him to work with html and he caught the 'internet bug'. He went on to help create ESPN International and now works with ESPN and Disney. And he said never would be where he is now if it weren't for my dad! You always here people say comments like that about their own parents, it was even cooler to hear it said about one of mine. Congrats Dad, I'm so proud of you!

Photobucket
After the party we hit an Olympia must-eat, Brewery City Pizza.

Photobucket
I promise Caleb was laughing in this picture, not freaking out!

Photobucket
Two days later we threw a huge family/friends party @ my cousin Mike's 'Party Barn'.
I still dont know why the fire truck stopped by that morning but they let my dad get in the truck!

Photobucket
I got to watch the kiddos while everyone else worked to get ready for the party.

Photobucket
Brynley is only 9 but she's already a little mommy, she is seriously so good with Caleb!

Photobucket
Go Kart time! These are NOT the sissy ones you ride in circles @ your local go kart place. They'll do 60 mph!

Photobucket
All the girls took turns riding with Uncle Jerry! I rarely have pics of Tiff...this is my cousin Tiff {but she's really like a sister} who I lived with for a few summers!

Photobucket
Caleb even got to go for a ride! He loved the first lap, but not the second!

Photobucket
Me & Doug @ the party!

Mom & Pop

I was able to convince my parents {last minute} to fly out for Labor Day weekend. We had such a good time. It was fun showing them our new apartment and new city, well at least the parts we know!

Friday: We ventured to the fabric district. Definitely a new experience for my parents. But we did score some cute fabric for a scarf. And we picked Russell up from school and got a nice little tour.

Photobucket
Saturday: Hit the beach. Boogie Boards. BYU game. Shopping in Old Pasadena. Qdoba.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Sunday: Church. Sewing. Tournament of Roses house. "Father of the bride house." Tomato Basil Soup mmm.

Monday: Disneyland and California Adventure. We really eased my parents into the rides by starting with Space Mountain. Oops!

Tuesday: Sewing and more sewing. {thanks mom}

Can't wait to see more of the fam when I fly home in a few weeks!

Amanda Stephens, RD

I posted this on facebook, but never on here. I passed the Registered Dietitians exam a few weeks ago!!! Such a great feeling. I studied my brains out and maybe a little too much.
{BYU and my internship prepared me so well}

Now in search of a job.

Beachy.

Living outside LA is an absolutely incredible thing. We live close to so many different things....Fashion District, Beach, Disneyland, Beach and Beach. Russell is getting much better at surfing and I have yet to give up my safe realm of the boogie board.

Photobucket

We did make one attempt to get me on the surf board. Which went a little something like this.
Floating and paddling, no problem.
First wave: drank enough salt water to feel like I drowned.
Monstrous, hard and fast waves. Really ideal for someone who doesn't know how to surf to teach someone who would rather be sunbathing.
At some point husband decides he sees a good wave and starts to spin me around. Putting all my faith in him I dont even look at the wave and wait for him to "push" me. Well push indeed-diagonal and into the water. All I remember is being hammered with water, flying off the board, with the cord wrapped around my foot, dragging me to shore.

Awful: surfing

Wonderful: wet suit

(dont worry mom, I was completely safe)

I will try again.

Its Tough to Be a Bug

We sauntered over to D-land last night. Although it didn't turn out as planned, (we went on 2 rides!) we managed to love it.

Photobucket

Sefciks. Me. Lukers. Whiteheads. {husband capturing picture).

We stayed late to see World of Color. One word: AMAZING!
{World of Color is a new water and light show @ California Adventure-definitely a must see!}

We also discovered that not only are all of the wives blond, all of our husbands are brunettes! Meant to be.
